It's that time of year again... when people spend an insane
amount of money that they don't have, buying things that they and 
others don't need, largely to impress people that they don't even 
like.

It's INSANE, but it's also human nature.

Like many others, I will buy some gifts for family and friends,
but UNLIKE many others, I will not have ANY additional consumer 
debt in  January.  

What's my secret?

Well, I'll buy many, if not MOST of my purchases for as little as
10 cents on the dollar.  It's something I've done for many years 
now.

I also won't buy ANYTHING on credit although I very easily could.
You see, I can get up to $400k, in as little as 5 days, at 0%
interest for up to 18 months, You could too, if I introduced you
to the people that I know :-)

That's a topic for another day, but feel free to ask me about
that too!

However, the only reason that I would take advantage of something
like that would be to make an investment. Borrowing for consumer
spending is foolish.  At least Warren Buffett and I both think
so!

For consumer spending, I'll just buy things for 10 cents on the
dollar.

Let me explain...

You see, I'm a member of a Business Barter Exchange, comprised of
25,000 businesses spread across the U.S. and Canada.  We conserve
our cash by buying and selling things for "barter dollars."

I personally sell mostly DIGITAL goods and some of my services
for as much as $20,000 in barter dollars and I then turn around 
and use those barter dollars for goods and services that I need 
in my business and personal life.  

Two examples:
- I sell access to a membership site for $997 in barter dollars.
This is a membership site where I purchased a license that allows
me to sell access, accepting any form of payment, and I get to
keep 100% of the membership fees... and the company that I 
purchased the license from takes care of my customers.  So, it's 
now essentially now 100% pure profit.

- I charge $5000 - $20,000 to write or rewrite a website,
depending upon the complexity of the job.  I've been writing copy 
since I was 14 (almost 40 years) and when I'm "in the zone," can 
write VERY fast.

I may spend as little as 10 hours on many jobs that pay me
$5000+, and those are generally using my "spare-time" hours.  

I also sell a lot of physical products.  I have over 60 listed in
the database of the site, and sell things regularly.

I estimate that my "hard costs" to earn my barter dollars are
about 10 cents per dollar paid to me.  So, when I say that I can 
buy things for 10 cents on the dollar, that's quite literal.

My business barter club is named ITEX, and again we have 25,000+ 
members in the U.S. and Canada.  Members sell just about any
product or service that you can imagine!
